Nadur Youngsters started the new season in the same way as they ended the previous one by winning the GFA Division I KO competition.  In the final match the Youngsters found it more difficult than expected to defeat Oratory Youths as they were trailing by one goal up to the 71st minute of play but managed to turn the result in their favour with two goals scored in the space of three minutes.  The match confirmed that the Youngsters are determined to be among the main contenders for the honours this season while Oratory, who were the revelation last season, confirmed the potential of their young team and that they are ready to make an improvement over the sixth placing that they obtained in the final standings of the championship last season.

The Youths were undoubtedly the better side during the first half where they scored an early goal and in at least two other occasions they could have scored a second goal.  The Youths once again produced a fine performance at their defensive department and were also very effective in their attack particularly through the contribution of Johan Attard, Shaun Attard and Mark Camilleri.  On the other hand Nadur, who were without the service of Claudio Antunes and Joseph Vella for this match due to an injury, were shocked after conceding Oratory’s goal.  However, the Youngsters made good use of their experience and re-organised themselves after the break so that they managed to imposed their superiority during the last forty-five minutes of the match.  Nadur’s protagonist in this competition was Charles Mercieca who scored the decisive goal in the semi-final match against Kercem Ajax and also scored the equaliser in this final match against Oratory.

Oratory seemed in a better shape than their opponents from the early stages of the encounter.  In the second minute of play and effort by Shaun Attard ended high and three minutes later Darko Stojanovic head in the area following a corner kick by Johann Attard but Mark Camilleri’s shot addressed to the far post ended just wide.  Nadur replied in the eighth minute through a header by Saviour Attard following a free kick by Frankie Camilleri that ended just wide and on 14 minutes the same Camilleri had an effort, after receiving the ball in the area form Milos Stojanovic, that ended on the side of the net.  The Youths opened the score on 18 minutes when Nadur’s goalie Mark Grima saved but did not hold a free kick by Leandro Blanco de Castro and Darko Stojanovic was at the right place to take the ball and place it in goal from close distance.  Two minutes later Nadur could have levelled the score but Frankie Camilleri headed wide following a cross by Charles Hili and four minutes later Ramon Dos Santos produced a personal action in Oratory’s territory but his shot was partially saved by goalie Franklin Vella.  From the rebound Josef Buttigieg deposited the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed for an offside position.  Oratory continued to be dangerous in their play and on 29 minutes they went very close to double the score as Shaun Attard entered through Nadur’s defence but his low drive after exchanging the ball with Mark Camilleri hit the base of the post and ended wide.  The same Attard went again close to scoring on 32 minutes when he entered Nadur’s area in a counter break but his low shot was well saved by goalie Grima.  Four minutes later Oratopry’s goalie Franklin Vella was called to make a good save to deflect to a corner a shot by Brian Meilak and on 39 minutes Frankie Camilleri had a header following a corner kick by Joseph Grima that ended inches away from the upper corner of Oratory’s goal.
