In the first semi-final match of the BOV GFA Cup Oratory Youths registered surprise, but deserved, win over holders Nadur Youngsters.  This will be Oratory’s third consecutive final in one calendar year as they were finalists in the last edition of the same competition and were also finalists in the Knock Out competition at the beginning of the current season.  In this semi-final match Oratory were determined to make up for a disappointing championship and to end the season on the same way that it started.  The Youths were well organized at their defense and very effective in attack.  Oratory’s striker Shaun Attard was undoubtedly the main protagonist for his side as he score a personal hat-trick.  Nadur Youngsters, who were favorites for qualification, suffered from Oratory’s deployment as they found it extremely difficult to convert their play into good scoring opportunities.  Nadur were also fragile at the defensive department and although they struggled to control Oratory’s adventurous play for just over an hour of the match, they ended up conceding four goals in the last twenty two minutes of the encounter.  Nadur’s disappointing performance and unexpected defeat was also conditioned by the absence of central defender Ramon Dos Santos who was released at the end of the championship to start a new experience in another country, by the fact that they had a player sent off just before half time and they also had to substitute their main striker Claudio Antunes midway through the second period.  As a result Nadur failed to produce a reaction after they conceded the first goal and the Youths dominated during the remaining minutes.

Oratory created the better scoring opportunities during the opening stages of the encounter and in the tenth minute of play a shot by Thiago Dos Santos ended wide.  Five minutes later Nadur’s goalie Charlon Muscat had good timing to take the ball from Thiago Dos Santos’ feet before the Brazilian striker could conclude in goal.  In another good move by Oratory on 28 minutes, a strike by Michael Mumford from outside the area ended high.  Nadur’s first serious reply arrived one minute later through s hot by Joseph Vella that ended wide.  On 34 minutes Nadur’s Charles Mercieca had a free kick that ended over the crossbar and three minutes later the Youngsters produced a good scoring opportunity when an attempt by Christian Debono from a cross by Mark Hyzler was blocked on the fatal line by goalie Elliot Fenech and from the rebound Milos Stojanovic had his shot that was blocked to a corner.  From the same corner kick by Joseph Vella, Charles Merieca’s header was cleared off the line by Michael Mumford.  On 44 minutes Nadur ended with a player less as Joseph Vella was sent off for dissent.

The Youths tried to take immediate advantage of the extra player on the field and during the first minutes of play of the second period they seemed more aggressive.  On 52 minutes Nadur’s goalie Charlon Muscat was well placed to turn to a corner an effort by Shaun Attard.  Three minutes later Nadur replied with a free kick by Claudio Antunes that was blocked to a corner.  Nadur could have concluded better on 64 but Josef Buttigieg’s shot from a cross by Frankie Camilleri ended high.  Oratory opened the score on 68 minutes when goalie Charlon Muscat partially saved a low cross by Thiago Dos Santos following a personal action and the ball arrived to Shaun Attard who netted from close distance.  The Youths gained confidence and on 75 minutes Nadur’s rearguard failed to clear the ball from the area following a cross by Shaun Attard but Andrea Debrincat incredibly concluded wide with an open score at his mercy.
