In the last match of the GFA 2014/2015 football season Xewkija Tigers registered a deserved 3-1 win over Oratory Youths to lift the GFA Super Cup for the third time in their history.  Xewkija therefore ended a memorable season as they ended champions in Gozo and winners of the BOV GFA Cup and Super Cup. In this match Xewkija seemed heading towards an easy win as they scored an early goal but they failed to capitalize from their superiority during most of the first half.  The Youths recovered from a difficult moment and not only leveled the score during the opening minutes of the second period but also went close to take the lead.  However, Xewkija regained command of play during the last thirty minutes of play and scored two goals that decided the issue.

In this match Xewkija’s scorers Chris Camilleri and Dene Shields were undoubtedly the main protagonists not only for scoring the three goals for their side, but also because the two players were playing the last match with Xewkija.  Midfielder Chris Camilleri announced that will retire as a player at the end of this season, while Shileds, who was also the captain for his side on this occasion, is leaving Gozo to return to Scotland ith an ambition to continue with his career in his home country.

Xewkija came out more aggressive and they could have opened the score in the first minute of play but John Camilleri’s header from a cross by Dene Shields was weak and easily controlled by goalie Franklin Vella.  However Xewkija broke the deadlock in the fourth minute when a low cross by Shields was deflected in the area by John Camilleri and Chris Camilleri netted from close distance with a low drive.  Oratory tried to produce a reaction and on 9 minutes they were dangerous through a header by Darko Stojanovic from a free kick by Thiago Dos Santos that was blocked to a corner.  Xewkija however continued to dictate matters and on 13 minutes Chris Camilleri concluded over the crossbar from close distance a long action in Oratory’s area.  One minute later a shot by Dene Shields ended wide and on 19 minutes Oratory’s goalie Franklin Vella left his position in time and managed to clear the ball from the edge of the area just before Shields could hit towards goal.  One minute later Shaun Attard received an inviting pass from Dos Santos but his shot was weak and goalie Adrian Parnis saved without difficulty.  On 27 minutes Xewkija had a goal scored by Dene Shields that was disallowed for an offside and in an immediate reply by the Youths an attempt by Andrea Debrincat from an angled position was blocked to a corner.  On 29 minutes Oratory’s Dos Santos had a good shot that was cleared off the goalmouth with the goalkeeper beaten by defender Peter Buttigieg.  Oratory started to share more play with their opponents during the last part of the first half.  On 34 minutes Thiago Dos Santos and Shaun Attard operated a dangerous counter break but the two strikers failed to conclude at goal.  Two minutes later Xewkija replied with a good move by Bogdanovic on the right flank but Dene Shields missed the header by few inches.  Xewkija’s goalie Adrian Parnis was well placed on 39 minutes to save a good header by Andrea Debrincat following a corner kick by Dos Santos and seconds form half time a shot by Shields after receiving from Bogdanovic missed the target.
