Munxar Falcons and Gharb Rangers produced a well contested encounter that was decided with two goals scored by Munxar in the final stages of the match.  Both Munxar and Gharb were aiming to obtain a victory to take the second spot on the table and as a result the two sides were more offensive in their deployment and victory could have gone either way.  Gharb however suffered a setback on 73 minutes when they were reduced to ten players and did not manage to defend their goal scored during the opening minutes of the first half.  This was also Gharb’s third consecutive defeat in the campaign.

Gharb were undoubtedly the better side during the first part of the match as Munxar did not manage to find the right deployment in the midfield.  On 15 minutes Munxar’s goalie George Vellla was called to make a good save following a strike by Josef Portelli from a pass by Frank Attard and on 28 minutes a shot on the run by Christian Attard missed the target.  Munxar recovered from the difficult period and on 33 minutes a shot by Ryan Meilak following a personal action ended high.  One minute later Gharb’s Christian Attard once again had a shot that missed the target and on 36 minutes Frank Attard failed to conclude in Munxar’s goal and inviting cross by Paul Anthony Attard.  On 45 minutes Gharb went again close to open the score but goalie George Vella partially saved a shot by Frank Attard and from the rebound substitute Josef Muscat had his attempt blocked by the defense.

In the third minute of play of the second period Munxar’s goalie George Vella made another good intervention to stop a shot by Paul Anthony Attard but one minute later the Rangers opened the score when Paul Anthony Attard was floored in the area by Michael Pace, the referee awarded a penalty and Justin Azzopardi converted from the spot kick.  Munxar replied four minutes later through a free kick by Frank Paul Azzopardi that was well saved by goalie Daniel Spiteri and on 55 minutes Munxar’s goalkeeper neutralised a free kick by Justin Azzopardi.  Gharb seemed in good control of their one-goal lead but on 73 minutes they ended with ten players as the referee showed a red card for a tackle by Christian Attard in the midfield.  Munxar took immediate advantage of the extra player on the field and on 80 minutes they leveled the score through a fine strike by Ryan Meilak that surprised goalie Spiteri.  Four minutes later Munxar also turned the result in their favour when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul by Matthew Grech on Alex Sacco and Frank Paul Azzopardi placed in goal with his shot from the spot kick.  Gharb tried to save the result during the dying moments but the closest that they went to scoring was on 87 minutes though a good shot by Paul Anthony Attard but goalie George Vella was at the right place and saved the danger.
