The match between SK Victoria Wanderers and Sannat Lions arrived at a delicate moment for the two sides despite the fact that this was only the fourth match day of the championship.  The Wanderers needed the three points to open a gap over three other teams on the table while Sannat needed as much the full points at stake to move over the same Wanderers on the table.  At the end the Wanderers seemed more determined.  They scored the two goals of the match at an early stage of the encounter and had control of play for the rest of the match so that they also kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.  Victoria’s striker Adolfo Sanz Ortiz continued to be the main protagonist for his side and with the two personal goals scored in this match the Spanish striker has a tally of six goals in the championship.  In this match the Wanderers also had a good performance in terms of their organization on the field as the defensive department managed to neutralize Sannat’s strikers and midfielders Joseph Refalo and Nicholas Vella once again distinguished themselves with their work-rate and effectiveness in their play.  On the other hand Sannat had a disappointing performance.  They tried hard to produce direct play towards striker s Eric Nwankwo and Fernando de Andrade but they did not manage to be consistent and moreover the two strikers cannot find their best form to capitalize from the chances in the opponent’s territory.

The Wanderers, who had skipper Chris Sciortino missing due to suspension, had an excellent start and in the second minute of play they opened the score.  Oliver Farruiga released Adolfo Sanz Ortiz and the latter placed in goal as the goalkeeper left his position in an attempt to block the danger.  Sannat were shocked and on 5 minutes the same Sanz Ortiz could have doubled the score but he hesitated to conclude and defender Akande Williams blocked the danger to a corner.  Sannat’s reply arrived on 13 minutes through a strike by Fernando de Andrade following a good move by Shaun Mizzi that was blocked by the defense.  However, Victoria continued to express the better play and on 24 minutes they scored the second goal when Nicholas Vella passed to Adolfo Sanz Ortiz just outside the area and the striker netted with a low drive towards the far post.  Two minutes later Sannat could have reduced the score but a strike by de Andrade form a good position missed the target and on 35 minutes the Wanderers had a direct free kick taken by Sanz Ortiz that also ended away from goal.  Victoria’s Sanz Ortiz had a good shot on 37 minutes that was well saved by goalie Angelo Brignoli and on 42 minutes Sannat’s Ejofor Nkwocha saw his attempt after receiving from de Andrade that was blocked by Victoria’s rearguard.  Sannat’s goalie Angelo Brignoli was well placed on 45 minutes to neutralize a free kick by Eman Bugeja and in the second minute of stoppage time before half time Victoria’s Joel Xuereb had a good shot from inside the area that ended just wide.

Sannat came out more aggressive for the second period and went close to re-open the issue on more than one occasion.  On 50 minutes a shot by Eric Nwankwo ended wide and two minutes later Fernando de Andrade was unlucky when his attempt hit the base of the post with the goalkeeper beaten.  On 58 minutes a shot on the run by Nicholas Micallef following a corner action ended just over the crossbar.  The Wanderers managed to recover for the difficult moment and just after the hour mark an effort by Sanz Ortiz following a personal action was saved to a corner by the goalkeeper.  On 62 minutes a header by Sanz Ortiz from close distance following a cross by Oliver Farrugia ended wide.
