St Lawrence Spurs recovered from the disappointing result from their previous match and obtained the victory from their match against SK Victoria Wanderers with the odd goal from three.  St Lawrence were determined to earn something from this match as they tried to be well protected at their defence.  They also managed to be effective in attack where they converted two actions from corner kicks midway through the first period into two goals which were decisive for the final score.  For this match the Spurs had goalie Joseph Grima was returned after recovering from an injury while player-coach Michael Vella was again leading the defence after a suspension of one match.  On the other hand the Wanderers, who were favourites to win the full points at stake from this encounter, found it extremely difficult to convert their offensive play into goals.  The Wanderers produced enough scoring opportunities to clinch a victory but they lacked the necessary determination in front of goal so that most of their attempts were either off target or neutralised by St Lawrence’s rearguard.  The Wanderers also had an open scoring opportunity cleared off the line, a good attempt that was stopped by the post and on two separate occasions they protested for a penalty as their strikers were denied from concluding at goal.  With this result the Spurs moved closer to the teams occupying the mid-table position so that the tussle against the red zone might become open to more teams in the next match of the championship.

As expected the Wanderers took the initiative of play from the early stages and on 12 minutes they could have opened the score when Adolfo Sanz Ortiz entered the area with a personal action but had his shot deflected by goalie Joseph Grima.  The ball seemed heading into an open goal but Daniel Micallef recovered in time and cleared the ball off the goal mouth to avoid a certain goal.  The Spurs opened the score in their first action towards Victoria’s area.  On 23 minutes St Lawrence won a corner that was taken by William Barbosa.  The ball arrived at the far post to Fabian Xuereb and from his cross Jason Theuma lobbed in goal with a fine back heel.  The Wanderers were shocked and two minutes later the Spurs won another corner action which was once again taken by Barbosa.  On this occasion it was Mambaye Boye when headed in the area from the far post and the ball arrived to Christopher Cauchi who headed into goal from close distance.  On 28 minutes Victoria replied with a low cross by Pedro Tarancon and Michael Vella risked to commit an own goal but the ball ended in a corner.  The wanderers tried to increase pressure over their opponents and on 31 minutes a shot on the run by John Paul Grima missed the target.  One minute later Victoria’s Ajibade Adesina had a good attempt that ended wide and on 36 minutes Sanz Ortiz entered the area with a personal action but his curling shot hit the post with the goalkeeper beaten.  The Wanderers were dangerous on at least two other occasions before half time but on 41 minutes a shot by Chris Sciortino ended over the crossbar and two minutes later a cross-shot by Lauran Dimech was turned to a corner with difficulty by goalie Joseph Grima.

In the fifth minute of play of the second period Sanz Ortiz headed wide from a good position a cross by Ajibade Adesina and on 57 minutes St Lawrence’s goalie Joseph Grima was at the right place to neutralise a shot by Adesina.  The Spurs replied on 61 minutes through a long ranged shot by Christopher Cauchi that ended just high and on 66 minutes Victoria’s Sanz Ortiz entered the area with a personal action but ended on the floor following a challenge with an opponent but play continued despite the protests for a penalty.
