Nadur Youngsters started their commitments in the BOV GFA Cup with an easy win over Sannat Lions.  This was the first match from the quarter final stage.  Nadur as expected and as shown in the final score were much better than their opponents and the qualification was practically decided within the first quarter of an hour of play.  The Youngsters had an aggressive start and converted their superiority with goals that helped them to put their minds at rest from an early stage of the encounter.  Nadur’s Christian Debono and Joseph Vella scored a brace each from the six goals of their side.  On the other hand Sannat, who are struggling against relegation in the championship, tried hard to keep a respectable score.  However, they found it extremely difficult to keep danger away from their area and above all they continued to show difficulties in attack where their strikers Fernando de Andrade and Eric Nwankwo cannot find their best form to capitalize from the chances that come on their way.

The holders could have opened the score in the seventh minute of play but Joseph Grima saw his shot from a good position that ended wide.  In the following action Nadur’s Joseph Vella had his attempt blocked by the defense and from the rebound Milos Stojanovic concluded over the crossbar from close distance.  Nadur opened the score in the ninth minute through a tap-in by Joseph Grima following a low pass by Josef Buttigieg.  Sannat replied two minutes through a good shot by Nicholas Micallef that was stopped by the post.  Sannat were punished for the missed chance and Nadur doubled the score one minute later through a shot by Christian Debono following another inviting pass by Josef Buttigieg.  On 14 minutes Sannat’s goalie Angelo Brignoli made a good save following an attempt by Claudio Antunes and one minute later Sannat went again close to scoring but an effort by Fernando de Andrade was well saved by Nadur’s goalie Mark Grima.  Once again Sannat’s missed chance led to a goal on the other side of the pitch as Nadur scored their third goal on 16 minutes through Joseph Vella following a personal action.  Sannat seemed demoralized and on 20 minutes the Youngsters added another goal through a header by Claudio Antunes following a corner kick by Christian Debono.  Two minutes later a shot by Nadur’s Joseph Vella ended high and minutes later Sannat’s goalie Angelo Brignoli saved a good effort by Milos Stojanovic.  Nadur scored their fifth goal on 32 minutes through a low shot from an angled position by Christian Debono.  During the final minutes of the first half Sannat had two scoring opportunities on separate occasion to reduce the score through attempt by Fernando de Andrade but the striker concluded wide on both situations.

After the resumption Nadur reduced their pressure and Sannat took advantage to share more play with their opponents.  On 57 minutes Sannat went very close to scoring but a header by Eric Nwankwo from close distance was well saved by substitute goalkeeper Charlon Muscat.  Three minutes later Nadur’s Joseph Grima had a shot from a good position that ended wide and on 68 minutes the same Grima had another attempt that was well saved by goalie Angelo Brignoli.  Two minutes later the same goalkeeper was well placed to neutralize a low shot by Milos Stojanovic.  Nadur went again close to score a consolation goal on 72 minutes but substitute Eric Gauci concluded wide from close distance.  On 85 minutes Nadur’s goalie Charlon Muscat left his position in time to block an effort by Eric Nwankwo who was entering the area.  Nadur sealed the victory on 88 minutes when substitute Mark Hyzler crossed from the right flank and Joseph Vella controlled the ball in the area and placed in goal with a low drive.
