Oratory Youths and Sannat Lions produced an interesting encounter that had to be decided with just one goal that arrived in the final stages of extra time.  Both Oratory and Sannat are aiming to challenge for a safe place on the table in the championship as the Youths are trying to consolidate their status in the top flight while Sannat, who won promotion through a win in the play-off at the end of last season, have the objective to keep away from relegation trouble.  Overall Oratory expressed the better play and Sannat’s goalie Angelo Brignoli was in fine form to keep his side in contention for qualification.  Oratory are insisting on their group of young players who were introduced in the first team during the past three seasons and they only had striker Mark Camilleri (ex-Xewkija Tigers) who was making a debut with the team.  The Youths also regained the service of Shaun Attard and Jurgen Attard who had a spell with SK Victoria Wanderers and Qala Saints respectively during the past season.  On the other hand Sannat had Mark Muscat who returned with the team after a season playing for Victoria Hotspurs, Eric Nwankwo who also returned with Sannat after some seasons playing for SK Victoria Wanderers and gave a debut to Ejofor Nkwocha who play for SK Victoria Wanderers during the last season.  Their other signing Akande Willams (ex-Munxar Falcons) was not eligible to play for this match due to a suspension.

During the first period play took place mainly in the midfield where Oratory held more possession but Sannat were dangerous through counter breaks.  On 12 minutes Oratory’s Mark Camilleri failed to connect to an inviting cross by Johann Attard and on 25 minutes a long ranged shot y Blanco de Castro missed the target.  Sannat replied on 34 minutes through a shot from long distance by Eric Nwankwo that ended high.  On 41 minutes Oratory missed a good scoring opportunity but Andrea Debrincat’s header from a cross by Jurgen Attard was well saved by goalie Brignoli.  On 44 minutes the Youths were also unlucky when a direct free kick by Shaun Attard was stopped by the crossbar.

Play was more exciting during the second half as the two sides managed to create more dangerous actions.  On 50 minutes Oratory’s goalie Franklin Vella saved to a corner a close ranged shot by Fernando de Andrade and four minutes later Oratory’s Shaun Attard had a good effort following a personal action that was neutralised by goalie Brignoli.  The same goalkeeper was called to make a good save on 62 minutes following another shot by Shaun Attard who was released through a pass by Keith Farrugia and on 71 minutes Sannat’s goalie managed to save a shot by Andrea Debrincat following a melee within the area.  The same Debrincat had a close rnaged shot following a fine move by Johann Attard that was blocked by the defence and minutes later Darko Stojanovic had a shot from outside the area that ended not far away from Sannat’s goal.  Sannat continued to suffer Oratory’s play during the second period and goalie Brignoli turn to a corner a good shot by Christian Cardona on 81 minutes and one minute later managed to save with the aid of the crossbar a long ranged strike by Shaun Attard.  Sannat managed to get out of their half and on 84 minutes they went very close to scoring but an attempt by Justin Agius from a corner action hit the post and from the rebound Eric Nwankwo and Fernando de Andrade both failed to conclude the ball in the net.  In the first minute of stoppage time before the end of the regular time Oratory were denied from scoring with another good save by Brignoili who managed to turn to a corner a cross shot by Jurgen Attard.
